        研究領(lǐng)域:
      •  I obtained my PhD in 1979 at Geology Department of Tokyo University under supervision of Prof. Ikuo Kushiro. After 2 years of PD in Geophysical laboratory (1979-1980), Carnegie Institute of Washington, I became assistant Professor at Institute for Study of the Earth’s Interior, Okayama University (1981-1988). Since 1988 until my retirement in 2017, I became a member of Earth and Planetary Science Department of Tokyo Institute of Technology (1988-2003 Associate Prof.; 2004-2017 Full Prof.) .

My research aim is to understand magma genesis and chemical geodynamics through intensive studies on mantle rocks, volcanic rocks and high-pressure experiments up to the lower mantle pressures. In Tokyo Tech., I built an experimental petrology laboratory (Magma Factory) that includes internally heated gas vessels (up to 0.9 GPa), piston-cylinders (up to 3.5 GPa) and Kawai-type multi-anvils (up to 50GPa). By the collaboration agreement between Tokyo Tech. and Chinese Academy of Sciences, I could move much of the experimental apparatus to the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, CAS. My goal at GIG is to collaborate many scientists and young students and pursue further development of very high-pressure experimental studies in China.

I organized and lead following projects in Japan that includes; Japan-US joint research project on Hawaiian volcanoes using JAMSTEC ships and submersibles (1998-2002, Hawaiian Volcanoes, Deep Underwater Perspectives AGU Monograph vol.128), 21COE “How to build habitable planets” (2004-2008, MEXT Japan), Mega Research Project “Geofluid: Nature and dynamics of fluids in subduction zones”(2011-2016, MEXT Japan). I have received following honors; Clarke Award (1987, Geochemical Society), 文部科學(xué)大臣表彰科學(xué)技術(shù)者賞(2007, 日本國文部科學(xué)省)Volcanological Society Award (2015, The Volcanological Society of Japan), AGU Fellow (2016, American Geophysical Union), JpGU Fellow (2018, Japan Geoscience Union), 紫綬褒章(2018、日本國政府).
